Suzhou Xietang Old Street, an authentic local street market, is the most typical ancient water town and water station in the Jiangnan region. The old streets and rivers depend on each other, with rivers in front and streets behind, small bridges and flowing water, and white walls and black tiles, maintaining the original appearance of the residential buildings in the Jiangnan water town. In particular, the seventh-generation old house named Zheng at the east end of the street was built during the Xuantong period of the Qing Dynasty. It is one of the buildings that best retains its traditional style. At its peak, the streets were lined with shops covering all major industries, with as many as 270 shops. Today, the old street has been given a new look. While fully embodying the function of a waterfront neighborhood with the traditional features of the Jiangnan water town, it has also been added as a business district for tourism, leisure and vacation activities, making it another characteristic tourist district in Suzhou with unlimited potential.Attractions distribution:
Xietang Old Street is located on the east bank of Jinji Lake in the east of the city. It was re-planned in early 2012 and now covers an area of about 13 hectares. With the "Xietang River" as the main axis, the old street is planned to include old blocks, exhibition areas, and new museum areas. The "famous shops, famous houses, and famous streets" of Xietang Old Street have been restored and rebuilt, and the ancient charm of Xietang and the stone bridge have been restored. A number of small garden courtyards, restaurants, specialty shops and other commercial streets have been built in 10 famous old street attractions such as Moon Night, and provide venues for cultural displays and large-scale events. How to get there:
Bus route:
1. Take bus No. 128 and get off at Xietang Old Block West (formerly: Songtao Street Songjiang Road) stop, and go north to Xietang River Bridge, about 300 meters;
2. Take bus 207, 166 or 130 and get off at Golden Shangcheng South Station. Walk 300 meters east (Nanshi Street). At the intersection of Songjiang Road and Chexie Road (Nanshi Street), go to 1000 meters north.
Self-driving route:
1. In Suzhou city, take the South Ring Expressway → Dushu Lake Avenue → Songtao Street;
2. In the direction of Shanghai, take the Hu-Chang Expressway , exit from the Chefang/Tongli/Sutongli exit at Wangcun Bridge, and drive along Wusong Road → Xingtang Street;
3. Take the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway in the direction of Nanjing → Suzhou North Station Elevated Road, on Go from Gaoluqiao towards Loujiang Expressway/Industrial Park/G312/Suzhou International Expo Center and turn into Guanduli Interchange, then drive along Loujiang Expressway → Xinghu Street → Songtao Street.
