The Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling in Beijing is a courtyard building that not only retains the layout and style of the royal garden, but also incorporates the characteristics of Western villas. The former residence of Soong Ching Ling was built in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. It was first used as the residence garden of Mingzhu, a great scholar in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. During the Qianlong period, it was the Heshen Villa. In the late Qing Dynasty, it became the palace garden of Prince Chun Zaifeng, the father of the last emperor Puyi, also known as the Prince Regent's Palace Garden. On the eve of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the place was already deserted. Later, Premier Zhou Enlai was entrusted by the party and the government to prepare for the construction of Comrade Soong Ching Ling's residence in Beijing. In 1961, the palace garden was renovated and a two-story small building was built to the west of the original building. The building was turned into an elegant and comfortable courtyard. From 1963 to 1981, Song Qingling lived and worked here for 18 years until his death.

Rain Room. A newly built cultural relics library is built on the west side of the former residence. The first floor has been permanently equipped with "Song Qingling's Life Exhibition" and "Song Qingling's Original Life Exhibition" to display the environment where Soong Ching Ling lived and worked. There are more than 20,000 cultural relics, mainly including Soong Ching Ling's handwriting, photos and other documents. materials and personal collections. There are 23 key protected ancient trees in the courtyard, including the 100-year-old Xifu Begonia, the 200-year-old Pomegranate Scene, and the 500-year-old Phoenix Sophora japonica. Every year on January 27, the anniversary of Soong Ching Ling’s birth, and on May 29, the anniversary of Soong Ching Ling’s death, commemorative activities with corresponding themes are organized in the former residence.
