Tianjing Pavilion was named because of its dangerous terrain and the appearance of "mountains surrounding it swallowing the sea, as clear as a mirror". It was once one of the four famous pavilions in Erhai Lake. In the late Nanzhao period, it was also a solemn Buddhist holy place on the Erhai Lake. Today there are still many mysterious Tantric myths circulating here.
