Introduction to Ravello: Ravello was once an important town in the Maritime Republic of Amalfi, an important trading center from 839 to about 1200, with one in Salerno and Amalfi Ancient legends tell of Ravello's breathtaking Mediterranean and Amalfi Coast scenery, where Satan tempted Jesus with the beauty of the nations.
The pleasant scenery of the town has attracted many artists, musicians and writers to stay here, including Richard Wagner, Mauritshuis Cornelius Escher, Giovanni Boccaccio, Virginia Woolf, Gore Vidal. Since 1953, the town has held the Ravello Festival every summer in memory of Richard Wagner.
