Introduction to the Big Bodhi Tree: Sri Maha Bodhi, the Big Bodhi Tree, is located in the center of Anuratpura. Planted 2,300 years ago, it is one of the oldest trees in the world. Buddhists regard it as the most sacred object after the Buddha's tooth. More than 2,000 years ago, Sanghamitra, the daughter of King Asoka of India, came to Sri Lanka to promote Buddhism and brought a branch of the Bodhi tree where the Buddha Sakyamuni sat in meditation for 7 days and nights to become enlightened. This branch was Planted in Anuradhapura, it has flourished for more than two thousand years.
