Introduction to Juanqinzhai: Juanqinzhai is located at the northernmost end of Ningshou Palace Garden, behind Fuwang Pavilion. It was built in the 37th year of Qianlong’s reign (1772) in imitation of Jingshengzhai in Fu Palace Garden. It was built during Qianlong’s reign As the later residence of the Supreme Emperor, Qianlong once wrote a poem in Fuwang Pavilion, "The elders are dedicated to Juanqin, and they support Xie Xuanchen." It also expressed his expectations after abdicating the throne, and the name Juanqinzhai also came from this poem. However, Qianlong did not live here after becoming the Supreme Empress. For more time, it became a place for Qianlong to listen to operas and entertain himself.
Juanqinzhai is a closed courtyard with a layout of 9 rooms in width, five rooms in the east and four rooms in the west. In the room, gauze cabinets are used to separate different rooms, and there are multiple throne beds. It is worth mentioning that the decoration inside the apartment is very luxurious. There are panoramic paintings on the ceiling and walls of the fourth west room. They were painted by Lang Shining, a famous Western court painter during the Qianlong period. There were many panoramic paintings in the palace at that time. The panoramic view painting here is the most well-preserved one.
