Tram introduction: The first tram in Beijing’s history was officially opened to traffic at Qianmen on December 17, 1924. At that time, there were 10 trams running between Qianmen and Xizhimen. Because of the wiring equipment on the roof of the tram and the sound it makes while running, people also call trams "motorcycle trams" or "dangdang trams". On May 6, 1966, with the suspension of the last tram line from the Beijing Stadium to Yongdingmen Railway Station, the tram that had been operating in Beijing for 42 years finally completed its historical mission. On January 1, 2009, tram tracks were laid on the renovated New Qianmen Street as planned, reopening the "dangdang tram" that had been missing for 50 years.
