Rise of the City·Introduction to Bengbu’s Modern History and Culture Exhibition: In 1911, the Tianjin-Puzhou Railway was opened to traffic. Affected by it, Bengbu gradually transformed from a gathering place in Gudu Township to the transportation, military, political and economic center of Anhui Province. The salt from Huaihe River is diverted to the shore, and salt and grain are traded with each other. The urban style has profoundly affected and changed the local culture of Bengbu. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Bengbu became the first provincial municipality in Anhui Province on New Year's Day in 1947. In March 1949, the General Front Committee of the Cross-River Campaign stationed in Sunjiawu Village and formulated an implementation plan for the entire campaign. After liberation, socialist construction advanced in twists and turns in exploration. The people of the city worked together, relied on resources and transportation advantages, forged ahead and had the courage to innovate, and transformed Bengbu into an industrial base in northern Anhui.
