Introduction to Zhaozhou Pagoda Courtyard: This pagoda is a "national key cultural relic protection unit". It was built in the third year of Tianli of the Yuan Dynasty (1330) to commemorate Zen master Zhaozhou Congcheng (778-897). The forehead of the pagoda is "Specially gifted to the great Yuan Dynasty Zhaozhou ancient Buddha Zhenji Guangguo Master". Brick and wood structure, solid, seven floors, 26.7 meters high, with simple and elegant shape and exquisite craftsmanship. Zen Master Zhaozhou is an eminent monk who has impressed both ancient and modern times in the history of Chinese Zen Buddhism. He is known as the "Ancient Buddha of Zhaozhou". In the eleventh year of Dazhong in the Tang Dynasty (857), the Zen master traveled to Zhaozhou at the age of eighty. He stayed here for 40 years and practiced Dharma. He passed away at the age of 120. His Zen style reached as far away as Japan, Korea and today's Europe and America, and three volumes of "Quotations" were published.
