Introduction to Quinconces Square: Esplande des Quinconces (also translated as Plum Blossom Square) is located on the bank of the Garonne River at the northern end of the old city, north of the Grand Theater. The square was built in 1820 and was originally under British rule. One of two forts built. The square covers an area of ​​120,000 square meters and is one of the largest squares in Europe. On the east side of the square stand two giant statues built in 1858 to show respect for the French philosophers Montaigne and Montesquieu. The Girondists monument at the west end commemorates the French Revolution. Built by the Girondins. (This faction is a moderate republican, many of whom come from the Gironde department where Bordeaux is located, hence the name.)
