Relief introduction: Borobudur has about 2,670 reliefs, including 1,460 narrative reliefs and 1,212 decorative reliefs, covering the facade of the building and cloister. The total area of the reliefs is 2,500 square meters, distributed in the hidden base and body of the tower. The narrative reliefs are divided into eleven groups and surround the entire building, with a total length of three kilometers. The first group of reliefs is in the hidden base of the tower, and the remaining ten groups are distributed on the lower four floors of the tower starting from the east gate of Borobudur. The narrative reliefs on the walls are arranged clockwise, while those on the cloisters are arranged in the opposite direction. The reliefs in the hidden tower describe the Buddhist law of karma. The reliefs on the first floor wall of the tower are divided into two columns, each with one hundred and twenty stone slabs. The upper column narrates the life of the Buddha, while the lower column and the corridors on the first and second floors of the pagoda describe the Buddha's previous life (Japanese life). The rest of the reliefs tell the story of Shancai's fifty-three practices and his attainment of righteousness.
