Introduction to Ming and Qing architecture: There are hundreds of Ming and Qing buildings preserved in Jiaoxi, and stone houses are also unique to Jiaoxi folk residences. Most of the houses are made of yellow stones produced in the local Heshan Mountain as the base of the walls. Some even have gables made entirely of stones. The courtyards of large families are deep and the details are very particular. Zhongjie, built in the Republic of China, is a typical representative of Jiaoxi's residential buildings. Most of the buildings are two-story brick and wood structures, with shops in the front and warehouses in the back, and people living upstairs. It has always been the commercial center of Jiaoxi.
