Brooklyn Bridge Introduction: New York's Brooklyn Bridge spans the East River in New York, connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan Island. It was officially put into use on May 24, 1883. The total length of the bridge is 1,834 meters. The bridge body is lifted 41 meters above the water by tens of thousands of steel cables. It was the longest suspension bridge in the world at that time and the first bridge built with steel in the world. When it was completed, it was considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The subsequent Eighth Wonder is known as one of the seven epoch-making architectural engineering miracles in the world during the Industrial Revolution era. When the bridge celebrated its centenary, the United States issued a 20-cent stamp to commemorate it, showing the majesty and grace of the bridge. The modern American poet Hart Crane also wrote a long poem specifically for it, called "The Bridge".
