Introduction to the Cartilaginous Fish Exhibition Hall: Cartilaginous fish appeared in the Devonian period, and there are more than 800 species in existence. Sharks, rays and chimaeras are cartilaginous fish. Sharks are the largest among cartilaginous fishes, and some sharks are so ferocious that they dominate the ocean. They have no swim bladder and are heavier, but most of their body shapes and fins have evolved to reduce water resistance or enhance swimming ability.
