Introduction to Gandhi Mausoleum: Raj Ghat is the mausoleum of Mahatma Gandhi, the founding father of India. Located in the eastern suburbs of New Delhi, in the middle of the cemetery, lies a black marble mausoleum. Behind the tomb is an ever-burning lamp that stays on day and night, symbolizing India's spirit of striving for national independence. This is just a symbolic mausoleum and Gandhi's body is not actually buried. On the front of the mausoleum are engraved in Hindi the last two words Gandhi shouted when he fell to the ground, "Hey! Rama!". The entire mausoleum has no decorations and is extremely simple, yet solemn and elegant. Every holiday, countless people in white national costumes come from all directions to deeply mourn the founding father. Everyone must take off their shoes when entering the cemetery to pay their respects.
There is prayer every Friday night at 5:30. Every year on October 2 and January 30, national leaders and citizens come here to observe silence and pay tribute to Gandhi.
Transportation: Take the yellow line to Chandni Chowk station, walk about 2 kilometers or take a tuk-tuk/human-powered three-wheeler.
