Introduction to the Samani Monument: Located in the center of Dushanbe, the Samanid (also known as "Samani") dynasty (874-999 AD) was founded by Nasr Ahmad. His ancestor was the Persian noble Saman and was named after him. The capital was initially Samarkand, and later Bukhara (Samarkand and Bukhara are now in Uzbekistan). The Samanid dynasty believed in Islam and was the most powerful in the first half of the 10th century. It occupied the area including present-day eastern Iran and the area between the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers. It was later destroyed by the Kashgar Khan dynasty.
