Introduction to Arles: Arles is an ancient small city in Provence. In 46 AD, Arles became a city where retired soldiers settled under the rule of Caesar the Great of the ancient Roman Empire. It was known as the "Little Rome of the Gauls". Then it became an important religious center in the early days of the development of Christianity, famous for its warm and bright Mediterranean sunshine and fashionable artistic style.
From February 21, 1888 to May 3, 1889, Van Gogh lived and created here. There are many paintings that are now fetched sky-high prices. Although the town is not big, its streets, houses, and bars are full of artistic atmosphere. The ancient Roman ruins, St. Trophime Church (Eglise St-Trophime) and Arles Museum (Sites et Musees arlesiens) in the town are also very interesting. Worth a look.
