Memorial Hall Introduction: The Plum Blossom Massacre occurred on October 12, 1937, the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. On October 11, Lu Zhengcao led the 691st Regiment to fight a beautiful blocking battle here. The enemy suffered seven to eight hundred casualties, while our army only lost one company commander, one squad leader, and more than twenty soldiers. During the battle, the folks in Meihua Town rushed to express their condolences to the officers and soldiers with homemade food, and spontaneously organized stretcher teams to transport the wounded. Due to the constant reinforcements from the enemy. Our army evacuated Meihua Town that night. Before leaving, he loudly informed the villagers: The Japanese are coming to the village, and they will kill people. Please run away for your lives. But at that time, the common people had no idea of the enemy's ferocity, and some people did not hear it. Most of the villagers still stayed at home.
In the early morning of the 12th, the enemy entered Meihua Town and retaliated and massacred the people on the pretext that they had participated in the resistance of Lu Zhengcao's troops. Many young and middle-aged men were tied up by the enemy and taken out in batches to be killed. The biggest murder place is the water hole in Zuluba. The enemy drove the people into the puddles and shot them with machine guns, killing five to six hundred people. In a deep well outside the east gate, the Japanese chopped off the heads of 45 young men, hung them on trees, and threw their bodies into the well. Later, fellow villagers called this well "blood well", and there were 13 blood wells in Meihua Town where corpses were thrown into. There are ten killing spots in the town, namely: the vacant land outside the east gate of the town, the blood well, the alkali water pit, the billet pit, the wall ditch outside the south gate, the Dyeing Fang Courtyard, the Fenfang Courtyard, and the landlord Shang Wuzi. Home, there is a puddle outside the west gate, and there is a wall ditch and a bridge outside the west gate. The killing lasted for four days and three nights. A total of 1,547 people were killed, of which 46 families were exterminated.
