Introduction to Hohenschwangau: Schloss Hohenschwangau, also known as Old Swan Castle or Hohenschwangau Castle, was built in the 12th century. The owner and builder of the castle was a knight of Schwangau and a court lyric poet in the "Heidelberg Songbook" (also known as the "Manese Codex"). After the knight's death, the castle was severely damaged during the Napoleonic Wars. King Ludwig II's father purchased the ruins and renovated them from 1832 to 1836. The romantic style of Hohenschwangau Castle also had a significant impact on the character of King Ludwig II.
