Introduction to ancient forests: The mineral name is silicified wood. It is a precious fossil of trees in ancient times. It dates back more than 100 million years. It was caused by volcanic eruptions. The trees were instantly covered with magma and buried underground. In a non-oxidizing environment , the lignocellulosic cells are replaced by the mineral quartz, forming siliceous wood fossils with residual lignocellulosic structures.
