Due to their simplicity and primitive characteristics, the Baikuyao are recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, Cultural and Health Organization as one of the ethnic groups with the most complete preservation of national culture. The national costume of Bai Ku Yao was awarded the title of "National Intangible Cultural Heritage" by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China.
