Introduction to the Old Bridge: The official name of the Old Bridge is the Karl-Theodor Bridge, which is the name of the elector who built this Baroque stone bridge in 1788. This is the ninth bridge at this location since ancient Roman times and is the oldest bridge on the Neckar River in the Heidelberg area today. The bridge is a pedestrian bridge most of the time, and you can look up to the castle. The southern end of the sculpture on the bridge is the elector Karl Theodor, and the northern end is the goddess of wisdom (to praise the elector's support for art and science).
