Introduction to University Square: University Square is the core of Heidelberg University. Near the square are many university-related buildings, departments, and former residences of important scholars in history. Next to the University Square, there is the Old University (Alte Universität) built in the early 18th century and the New University (Neue Universität) built in the early 20th century.
