Introduction to the First Pass in Jiangnan: The First Pass in Jiangnan is 424 meters above sea level. It is an important pass on the Huihang Ancient Road and the main passage of Qingliang Peak. From the foot of the rock to this point, there are more than 1,400 steps. First time climbers feel palpitated and dizzy, walking slowly against the wall and not daring to look down. The gate is composed of four large stone bars crossing natural rocks. On the west side of the lintel is inscribed "The First Pass in the South of the Yangtze River" and on the east side is inscribed "Huihang Lock Key, built by people in the second year of Tongzhi, inscribed by Shao Daotang" in regular script. There is an arched stone pavilion built on the mountain on the east side of the pass, where passers-by can take shelter from the rain and rest.
The first pass in the south of the Yangtze River is named after Hu Zongxian, the Minister of War in the Ming Dynasty and a famous anti-Japanese official. He believed that this was the most dangerous place in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and it was called the first pass, so he named it the first pass in Jiangnan.
