Introduction to Zion Gate: Zion Gate (Zion Gate) is located on the south side of the Old City of Jerusalem. It was built by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1540 and was named because it faces Mount Zion to the south. Because David's Tomb is located on Mount Zion, it is also called "David's Gate". Inside the city gate are the Armenian Quarter and the Jewish Quarter. On May 13, 1948, the last British troops withdrew from Jerusalem and handed the keys to Zion's Gate to Jewish leader Mordechai Weingarten. During the first Middle East war that followed, Paramach failed in his battle for control of the Jewish ghetto at Zion Gate, and the dense bullet marks left by that time can still be seen today. The Gate of Zion and the Old City of Jerusalem are under Jordanian control, while Mount Zion is ruled by Israel. Zion Gate remained closed since then and was not reopened until after the Six-Day War in 1967.
