Introduction to the Port of Kingston: The navigable water area of the Port of Kingston in Jamaica is approximately 8 square nautical miles and the water depth is 90 feet. It is the seventh largest natural harbor in the world and is located on the axis of the east-west, north-south in the Caribbean. It leads the Caribbean and Central America in terms of strategic position, cargo throughput and number of ship calls. The Port of Kingston is only 20 to 32 nautical miles away from the main east-west trade channel of the Panama Canal. It is an important transshipment port for goods shipped to Central America and Caribbean countries, and an important port of call for international routes to North America, Europe, and the Far East. The port has facilities for handling all types of cargo, with modern container terminals, bulk cargo terminals, dry cargo terminals and refineries.
