Introduction to St. Bartholomew's Chapel: St. Bartholomew's Chapel (German: St. Bartholomä) is the symbol of Lake Königssee. St. Bartholomew's Chapel, located on a peninsula in the middle of the west bank of King Lake, is small and unique. It is famous for its special shape. The red dome is in the shape of an onion, and the semicircular apse of the chapel is divided into three symmetrical petals. The chapel was built in the 12th century and began to develop into the Baroque style in the 16th century. The chapel is named after Saint Bartholomew, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, who is considered the patron saint of farmers and milkmaids in the Alps. Enshrined on the altar of the semicircular apse of the church are Saint Bartholomew, the Christian saint Saint Catherine, and Saint James, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus.
