Introduction to De Falk Windmill: One of the things that Leiden people are proud of is the well-protected windmill. DE VALK is the most famous and oldest of the only three or four windmills left in Leiden. It was originally built in 1611 as a 29-meter-high plinth windmill (standerdmolen), which was replaced in 1667 by a wooden robe windmill (stellingmolen). The current windmill was built in 1743 and is a stone windmill.
