Introduction to the Lyon Museum of Fine Arts: The Musée des beaux-arts de Lyon is located in the original Benedictine monastery building of the 17th and 18th centuries on the south side of Place des Terrestrial. It has been open to tourists since 1988 to 1998 after repairs. The Municipal Art Museum's collection ranges from ancient Egyptian artifacts to modern art, especially European paintings from the 14th to the mid-20th century. It is one of the most important art museums in Europe.
