Introduction to St. Peter’s Church (StPaul’s Church): Penang Hill (also known as West Hill) located at the mouth of the Malacca River was built in 1521 by the Portuguese. The famous missionary Saint Francis is buried here, and there is a statue of Father Saint Francis in front of the church. After the Dutch occupied Malacca in 1670, they used the church as a castle. Many bullet holes can still be seen on the outer wall today. In 1753, the Dutch built another church, and St. Paul's Church was used as a cemetery for Dutch nobles. There are still some tombstones engraved in Latin and Portuguese. There is a tomb in the church, which was the temporary burial place of St. Francis in 1553.
