Introduction to the Grand Square: Malmö Grand Square (Stortorget) is the oldest square in the city and was built under the order of the then mayor Cook. Next to the main square there is a small square (Lilla toorg) built in 1591 and surrounded by half-timbered houses from the 16th to 18th centuries. Originally this was the main market in the city, but now it has become the liveliest place in Malmö, with the largest concentration of restaurants, cafes and gift shops.
