Introduction to the Masaigu Almshouse: The Masaigu Almshouse was originally a poor almshouse built under the order of the French royal family in 1670. However, it was not for charitable purposes, but a detention center for poor immigrants. You are not allowed to leave at will. The almshouse is divided into two parts: the hospital and the dome church. It was designed by Pierre Puget, the architect who designed the Palace of Versailles, but the style is much simpler. The almshouse now houses the Marseille Archaeological Museum and the Marseille Museum of African, Oceanian and Armenian Art.
