Introduction to the Costume Research Museum Department: In 1937, Aline Bernstein and Irene Lewisohn established the Costume Art Museum. The collection now has more than 80,000 pieces of clothing and accessories. Because these collections are very fragile, they will not be exhibited for a long time. They are only displayed twice a year in the art gallery, each time with a specific designer or theme.
