Introduction to Taolin Ergong Temple: It was built by Zuo Zongtang, the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, in memory of his predecessors Tao Shu and Lin Zexu in the ninth year of Guangxu (1883).
Tao Shu (1778-1839), courtesy name Yunting, was born in Xiaoyan Town, Anhua County, Hunan Province. He was a Jinshi in the seventh year of Jiaqing. He served as editor of the Hanlin Academy and was promoted to censor. He was successively transferred to Shanxi, Sichuan, Fujian, Anhui, etc. He was the provincial chief envoy and governor, and later became the governor of Liangjiang and the prince Shaobao. During his tenure, he supervised shipping, eliminated the long-standing abuses of the salt administration, built water conservancy projects, and set up warehouses to relieve the famine years. He died of illness in the Liangjiang Governor's Office. He was given the title of Taibao to the prince, and his posthumous title was Wenyi. , author of "The Poems of the Yinxin Stone House", "The Diary of Shu Shou", "The Collection of Mr. Jingjie", "The Complete Works of Tao Wenyi", etc.
Lin Zexu (1785-1850), named Yuanfu, also named Shaomu and Shilin, was a Houguan native of Fujian (now Fuzhou City). He was the governor of Liangjiang in the 15th and 16th years of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1835-1836); In the ninth year, he was re-appointed as the Governor of Liangjiang (before taking office). He was ordered to be the imperial minister and went to Guangdong to investigate the smoking ban. On June 3, he sold cigarettes at Humen Beach. Later, he was framed by a traitor and was dismissed by Emperor Daoguang. He was sent to Ili; in the 30th year of Daoguang ( 1850) In order to wipe out the Taiping Army, the Qing government once again appointed him as the imperial minister to supervise the military affairs of Guangxi. Lin died suddenly in Puning County, Chaozhou on his way to his appointment. He was 66 years old. After his death, he was given the posthumous title Wenzhong by the Jin Dynasty.
