Introduction to Xuyuan: Xuyuan was the garden of the residence of Han King Zhu Gaoxu in the early Ming Dynasty, and the garden of the Governor-General of Liangjiang in the Qing Dynasty. When the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom built the Celestial Palace, it was expanded. Because the garden is located on the west side of the palace, it is also called the "West Garden" and is symmetrical to the East Garden. It was destroyed when the Qing army captured the city, and was rebuilt by Zeng Guofan in the ninth year of Tongzhi (1870).
Xuyuan is connected with the Presidential Palace. There are still many famous historical sites and attractions in the park, such as Shifangbutiezhou, Xijia Tower, Wangfei Pavilion, Yilan Pavilion, Yinxin Stone House and Qing Dynasty inscriptions. .
In January 1912, the provisional government of the Republic of China was established. Sun Yat-sen's provisional presidential office and living room were located in the Xuyuan. After the establishment of the National Government in April 1927, the National Revolutionary Army Headquarters (co-located with the Northern Expeditionary Army Headquarters), the National Government Military Commission, the General Staff Headquarters, and the Military Affairs Bureau of the Presidential Palace all had offices in the park.
