The church preserves the blood of St. Januarius, the patron saint of Naples, and holds the "Miracle of St. Januarius" on the first Saturday in May and September 19th every year, when people bring silver The bust of the saint precedes the iconographic procession and is placed next to the altar, eagerly awaiting the time when the coagulated and dried blood of Saint Januarius will liquefy again. This ritual dates back to the 13th century and is equivalent to the Neapolitan oracle: if the miracle of liquefaction does not occur, disaster is imminent.
