Introduction to Piazza San Domenico Maggiore: San Domenico Maggiore is located near the National Museum. In the middle of the square is an obelisk with a statue of Saint Dominic, the founder of the Dominican order, on top of it in 1656. It was erected after the plague in 1737 and completed in 1737 by Charles III, the first Bourbon monarch of Naples.
