Relic introduction: Emilia's last flight was when she and her assistant Fred Noonan set out on May 21, 1937 to fly around the world in a LOCKHEED twin-engine aircraft. They flew east from Auckland on the west coast of the United States. After a journey of 22,000 miles, they arrived at Lae in the Marshall Islands on June 29. On July 2, they set off from Lae to their next refueling point, Howland, when the plane disappeared into the vast Pacific. At this time, they only have less than 6,000 kilometers left to travel from home (I simply calculated it on Google Maps).
