Introduction to Bethesda Fountain: Bethesda Fountain is located in the core of Central Park. It was built in 1873 to commemorate the soldiers who died at sea during the Civil War. The name of Bethesda is taken from the biblical story, and the four statues surrounding the fountain represent "temperance", "purity", "health" and "peace" respectively. Groups of swans often swim leisurely in this pool, and many tourists row boats in the lake, which is leisurely and natural.
