Introduction to the Great Vairocana Buddha Statue: The Royal-given bronze and gilded Great Vairocana Buddha Statue is the treasure of the Huayan Temple in Zhitishan. The Buddha statue is a treasure cast by the court in the 25th year of Wanli of the Ming Dynasty (1597 AD). It is 2.5 meters high, has a rosette diameter of 3.7 meters, and weighs about 500 kilograms. The Buddha statue sits on a lotus seat, wearing a golden crown on its head, with its hands in the Vairocana seal, and its appearance is solemn. There are a thousand small half-length relief Buddha statues carved around the rosette, like lotus petals stacked on top of each other. The craftsmanship is exquisite and the image is lifelike. Many of the small Buddha statues have been touched by tourists and become smooth and shiny. In Tibetan Buddhism, Vairocana Buddha is regarded as the Great Sun Tathagata and one of the Five Tathagatas in the Vajra Realm.
