Introduction to Duke Kuoran: Grand Duke Kuoran is located in the mountains and rivers northwest of Fuhai. Built before 1719 (the fifty-eighth year of Kangxi), it was called Shenliu Reading Hall. In 1726 (the fourth year of the Yongzheng reign), a major addition was made, and it was also collectively known as Shuanghezhai. In 1739 (the fourth year of the Qianlong reign), it was named Kuoran Grand Duke. In 1755 (the 20th year of Qianlong's reign), a large-scale reconstruction was made on the north side of the river pond according to the Wuxi Huishan Jichang Garden, especially the stacked stones.
When the Old Summer Palace was destroyed in 1860, Shuanghezhai was one of the few surviving buildings in the garden. It was completely destroyed in the war in 1900. Today, there are still a large number of Taihu stones remaining at the site.
