Introduction to the Rideau Canal: The Rideau Canal was built in 1832 and is 12 kilometers long. It connects the Ottawa River and Lake Ontario, reaches the Atlantic Ocean in the east, and leads to the Great Lakes of North America in the west. The Rideau Canal is the best-preserved example of a still-water canal in North America. It is also the only canal that was built during the era of North American canal construction in the early 19th century. Its flow path remains unchanged to this day, and most of its original structures are intact. Today, the canal runs through the entire city, with ten bridges spanning the east and west banks. Hexi is called Shangcheng, and most of the residents are British. Hedong is called Xiacheng, and most of the residents are French. The beautiful scenery along the way has become the most charming tourist attraction.
