Introduction to Kyichu Lhakhang: Kyichu Lhakhang, also known as Kyichu Temple, is one of the first religious fortresses built by the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is a double temple building. The First Temple was built by Songtsen Gampo in 638 AD. The eight-year-old Buddha statue enshrined in the temple is one of the most sacred Buddha statues in Bhutan. As one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Bhutan, Qi Chu Temple houses many precious cultural relics. In addition to the life-size Buddha statue that is as famous as the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, there is also the ashes of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche after he was cremated in 1992.
