Introduction to Paro Festival: Paro Festival is the most solemn Buddhist festival in Bhutan. It is established by the Bhutanese people to commemorate their most admired Guru Padmasambhava. The birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava falls on the tenth day of the lunar calendar, and the Paro Festival is celebrated with grand celebrations during these three days. Believers put on the most solemn and formal traditional clothes and go to Paro Dzong to witness their faith and receive blessings from their masters.
The Paro Festival consists of three parts. The first day is the pre-festival preparations, the second day is the celebrations within the Paro Dzong, and then, the next three days are rich celebrations everywhere.
At the Paro Festival, the dance performed is performed by lamas and ordinary believers. This is considered a kind of meditation practice and a practice of reappearing the gods and Buddhas they believe in in the world. The performers wear various ferocious religious masks and exquisite silk and satin costumes. The dancers' performance tells the story of the saint's triumphant victory over the demons, and the beautiful sounds of the suona, cymbals, and bamboo flutes convey the supreme power of benevolence.
