Introduction to Mickiewicz: The Adam Mickiewicz Memorial Statue located in the central square of Krakow's Old Town is one of the most famous bronze statues in Poland and one of the city's landmarks. He was a great Romantic poet in Poland in the 19th century. His ideals of striving for the liberation of the motherland run through his works. Below the statue, there are four sculptures with other meanings facing four directions, representing: motherland, science, courage and poetry. The inscription on the base reads: "To Adam Mickiewicz, the Nation." Every Christmas Eve, the memorial statue is decorated with flowers by Krakow's florists.
