Introduction to Kim Il Sung Square: Kim Il Sung Square is the central square of the capital. It was completed in August 1954 and covers an area of 75,000 square meters. The ground is paved with granite. This is the place where North Korea holds important political and cultural activities, celebrations, public gatherings, and military parades. Portraits of Kim Il Sung, Marx and Lenin are hung on the buildings around the square, and glimpses of Kim Il Sung Square are often shown in foreign TV documentaries related to North Korea. The square is centered on the huge bronze statue of Kim Il-sung, flanked by group sculptures under red flags, and behind it is the Korean Revolution Museum. To the north and south of Kim Il Sung Square are the Theme and Thought Tower and the People's Great Study Hall respectively.
