Introduction to People's Square: People's Square (Piazza Del Popolo) is located at the intersection of three major roads. In 1562, after Michelangelo designed and renovated it according to the instructions of the Pope, it was called People's Gate (Porta del Popolo). The stone gate on the north side of the square was the entrance to Rome from the ancient Roman Via Flaminia.
