Introduction to Turtle Island: Turtle Islands National Park is located in the Sulu Sea on the east coast of Sabah, 40 kilometers from the northern end of Sandakan. It is the most important turtle egg laying and hatching place in Southeast Asia, and a safe breeding paradise for endangered green turtles and hawksbill turtles. The dull beaches here during the day turn into magic at night: sea turtles will climb up from the sea and lay their eggs on the beach. This is the only reason for female sea turtles to come ashore in their lives. The hatchlings will emerge from their shells and crawl into the sea late at night until dawn.
