Introduction to the National Historical Museum: The National Historical Museum (Museo Historico Nacional) was built between 1804 and 1807 at the end of the colonial era. It was originally the location of the original Royal Court and the Treasury. Its architect Juan Goycolea was a student of the cathedral architect Toesca, so the building continued his neoclassical style. Although it has undergone many repairs, the front of the building has remained unchanged.
After Chile’s independence until 1846 (when the presidential residence was moved from the Central Post Office to La Moneda Palace), it became the office location of some government departments. After restoration in 1981, it was converted into the National History Museum to collect collections from the pre-Columbian period to the 20th century. century, more than 70,000 cultural relics.
