Introduction to the statues of Marx and Engels: The Square of the Marx and Engels Statues is located on the small lawn to the north of the felt flower bed. It is the southern half of the original rectangular patterned lawn. The memorial statues of Max and Engels were designed by Zhang Yonghao of Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Studio and produced by Beijing Architectural Art Sculpture Factory. The foundation stone of the statue was laid on May 5, 1983, the 165th anniversary of Marx's birth. It was unveiled on August 5, 1985, the 90th anniversary of Engels' death. Rui Xingwen, then Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Mayor Jiang Zemin attended the unveiling ceremony. The statue is made of granite, 6.4 meters high, 3 meters wide, and weighs more than 70 tons. It is composed of three large granite stones. The statue base platform is 855 square meters and the passage is 363 square meters, both of which are made of granite blocks. Green and tall cedars are planted next to the statue, colorful flower beds are set up, and green grass surrounds the statue.
